"GREAT VICTORIA DESERT"

Aug/Sept 2006 Tour Summary

    Connie & I completed this Tour as a mapping exercise for HEMA. We covered the same route as advertised but also included quite a few extra detours. We spent time investigating areas we had not been to before as well as further exploration in the more travelled spots. It always comes as a surprise to us whenever we find something significant that people have been driving past for years……

    The following basic information is derived from that Tour.

• GPS Odometer = 2864 kms (several kilometres walked)
• Mineral Exploration Teams are very busy in the South West of the Great Victoria Desert. We assume Gold would be the main cause of such activity.

• 238 entries had been made in the Neale Junction visitors book since we passed through in late May 2006.

• Beadell Plaques were in good condition, which includes the new Plaque & Sign at Tallaringa Well erected in April 2006.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Princess Parrots; 2 pair seen in the Unnamed Conservation Park
• Scarlet Chested Parrots; several were seen in W.A. (not to be confused with Mulga Parrots)
